RUDIMENTAL FT JOHN NEWMAN – FEEL THE LOVE

June 2012

Weeks on chart: 30+

Peak position:  1

As someone who spent many a night back in the late 90’s frequenting Mass in Brixton (And I ain’t talking church as Sammy Yousef will testify!), it’s strange to think that it took over another decade before a drum & bass tune topped the UK charts.  DJ Fresh’s “Hot Right Now” was the first to do so, but this track from Hackney based Rudimental was the finest d&b effort of the year.  John Newman supplies one of the best vocals of 2012 as the track slowly builds from a dubstep bassline into a huge crescendo of drum & bass mixed with jazzy horns.  The timing of the breakdown is spot on and the track rises once again as Newman is joined by a gleeful backing chorus, and finally into a rousing blast of chorus before ending with the silky smooth soul tones of Newman’s acapella……..TUUUUUUUUNAGE!
